The Black Smoke is a new blog ”...especially for LOST-themed posts… theories, critical essays, and occasional satiric observations on ABC's LOST.” The author—Chris from Midvale, Utah USA —knows his facts, develops sound analysis, and keeps me wanting to read more.

West Towne Mall

/

I went shopping today at West Towne Mall. I needed a new pair of Nike Air Force One. Champs carries my favorite basketball shoe. Before leaving the mall parking lot, I located light pole #43.

Fade Back the Add Button on Netflix

/

I just added the movie, V for Vendetta (2006), to my Netfix queue. As I scanned across the “Other Movies You Might Enjoy” screen, I realized that all of them are ones that I have watched and rated. The orange add buttons stand out too much. They should be a slightly muted color such that I can more easily identify movies which are new to me.

Mile Marker at Sunset

/

The temperate yesterday was warm enough all day that the snow melted away. So, Southern Wisconsin has reached that gloomy transition period before Spring—the vegetation is matted down, the roadways and curbs are grimy, and the sky stays overcast. Last night, noticing a meager sunset, I drove 26 miles southwest from Mount Horeb in search of mile marker 43 along highway 151.

Mile Marker

Hwy 151 is considered a north and south route; however, it spans a diagonal distance of approximately 247 miles between I-80 (southwest of Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin portion of the highway begins at the Mississippi river, in Dubuque, Iowa. Mile marker number 43 is located between Mineral Point and Dodgeville.

Recent Snow Storm Changes Pole #432 into #43

/

I’ve exhausted the obvious possibilities for finding more photo opportunities while driving my regular route to work each day. One candidate I considered is a “No Parking” sign that has a three digit number positioned vertically on the pole near the bottom. I decided to disregard the sign. However, the most recent snow storm and city plows unknowingly conspired to hide the bottom number. Suddenly, I had my next project entry.
